The wide range of techniques used
by Elise Rieuf is astonishing. Be it oil painting, pastel, pencil,
ball-point pen, charcoal pencil, red chalk, watercolor, wash, ink,
engraving, she goes from one technique to another without seeming difficulty.
Or perhaps the challenge was to master each of them, in order to probe the possibilities
it offered.

With Elise Rieuf the idea is always of utmost
importance : the technique only serves the composition. Sometimes Elise
Rieuf realizes a portrait first in oil painting, then in pastel, thus
showing an aspect of her personal research.

It is quite surprising to see how this artist’s
works of art keep a unity, while displaying such a large variety of
techniques, shapes and subjects. No systematization, but an infinite
richness.
It is, moreover, a feature common to most of the women artists who gathered
around M.J. Carpentier
